Big Creek Pet Hospital had its origins in 1948 when Dr. Herman founded a pet hospital in Berea, Ohio. Shortly afterward, Dr. Herman volunteered for military service and during his absence his property was re-zoned and became the original location of Southwest General Hospital. Upon Dr. Herman's return, he moved his practice to the corner of Pearl and Bagley Roads while retaining the Berea Pet Hospital name. In 1992, Dr. Deborah W. Fegan, D.V.M. and her husband Ed Fegan purchased the practice, and in February 2002 moved to their present location at 16949 E. Bagley Road. The practice was renamed Big Creek Pet Hospital at that time to better reflect the communities they served. While the facility's name and location have changed over the years, the spirit of the practice has remained the same as it has continued to grow. We met with Dr. Fegan and Practice Manager Ed Fegan recently, and listened as they described the services Big Creek Pet Hospital provides;
Big Creek Pet Hospital is a full-service pet hospital offering full medical, dental, and surgical services for dogs, cats, and pocket pets, such as guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets, and hamsters. We have four veterinarians on staff, in addition to having our own in-house laboratory and radiology department. The foundation of our practice is providing preventive care, although we provide emergency care for pets, as well.
Our goal is to enable each animal we see to live a full, healthy, and happy life. We present the owners with a personalized health care plan for their pet, detailing the health challenges their pet may encounter in the future. By empowering our clients with the best recommendations possible, we provide them with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions regarding their pet's health, and to prevent known conditions from developing to a critical stage. Although we offer emergency treatment for disease during our regular business hours and have an emergency clinic to provide support after hours, our proactive approach to pet health care enables many conditions to be treated before reaching the critical stage.
Big Creek Pet Hospital provides boarding services for cats and dogs, Our large, windowed runs give plenty of exposure to the outside world, and the animals receive towels and blankets for bedding. Our kennel staff is on duty seven days a week, and takes the animals outside for walks at least twice a day. The cats have their own dens in the medical area where they can enjoy their seclusion while being entertained by the goings-on in the office.
Our highly trained, loyal staff members function like an extended family. They have received extensive training, and have been with us for a long time. All of our staff members take part in continuing education classes that exceed the state requirements, and use the knowledge and experience they have acquired not only in triage, but also to answer the many questions they receive from interested pet owners.
